Day 17 : Life Is Like Cooking

In the cooking school, we don’t follow a fixed schedule or menu when it comes to learning. Some days when you feel like cooking, you stay in the kitchen. Some days when you feel like doing gardening, you go to the garden. Nobody tells you what to do and how you should do it—it’s your own choice, at your own pace.

The founder of the school, Simon, came by today and taught us how to prepare and cook some of his newly concocted recipes. So new he admitted that he had never tried them before, and it would be “an experiment to see how it goes”. Nobody is too big to try and fail; the key thing in cooking is feeling it with your heart.

When one is passionate about what they do, their energy spreads to others. Likewise, when we are happy while we cook, the good vibes spread to the food and people who eat them will enjoy it too.

We can always follow a recipe to be somewhat more consistent with our results, but anyone who has cooked before will know that you can never have the same exact taste even with a tried and tested recipe because external conditions change all the time. All we can do is try our best.

Sometimes we may not always have the ingredients we want, and we just have to make do with what we have and be creative about it. Have fun, use our hearts, expect little and experiment more.

The final dish may not always be what you expected but the whole cooking process can definitely be fun!
